ALDI Australia is proud to have taken top spot in this year’s Sustainable Seafood Awards Australia “Best Product Award”, presented by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for its Ocean Rise Pink Salmon, highlighting ALDI’s ongoing commitment to responsibly sourced seafood.
With Sustainable Seafood Week this week, ALDI is committed to providing customers with responsibly sourced fish to reduce the pressure on ocean habitats as a result of excess demand for seafood.
Daniel Tuffield, Buying Director for Grocery Food, Canned Seafood at ALDI Australia said that as the supermarket with the largest range of MSC certified own-label fish and seafood, it is an honour to be recognised by the MSC in its annual awards.
“This award-win is a testament to the time our team invests in sourcing the best quality products, as well as our focus on ensuring we operate sustainably and ethically across our business and supply chain. It is our aim to enable our customers to be able to purchase products such as our Ocean Rise Pink Salmon and know that they aren’t compromising the earth when they do their weekly grocery shop,” said Mr Tuffield.
ALDI has worked closely with the MSC for many years, actively engages with industry and has a number of partnerships in place to ensure its business partners and those in the supply chain are using sustainable practices and methods for sourcing the seafood stocked on its shelves.
ALDI was the first Australian retailer to join the Ocean Disclosure Project (ODP) to voluntarily disclose where its wild caught seafood products are sourced.
All ALDI’s seafood product packaging has the “Responsibly Sourced” logo, and includes detailed information on what’s inside, from the scientific and common names of the fish to their country of origin, ALDI also lists information on whether the product was fished or farmed, as well as the area of the fishery it comes from.
